AMINOVIT® is a dietary supplement for homing and show pigeons, cage and aviary birds, parrots, macaws, cockatoos, lories, parakeets, pheasants and waterfowl.
Recently, we have slightly changed the composition of AMINOVIT®. You may notice this by a slightly different look and smell of the supplement.
AMINOVIT® provides a necessary supplement to the maintenance nutrition of, among others:
AMINOVIT® is a dietary supplement containing vitamins, minerals and amino acids. This is highly concentrated. A carrier/filler is added to allow for accurate dosing.
In the improved composition, the quantities of nutrients have remained the same, but the latest insights in the field of bio-availability have been applied. This means that the supplements can be better absorbed and used by the birds.
The minerals in the product are slightly different in terms of their chemical form compared with the old formula. Instead of artificial salt forms, biologically more absorbable forms are now used. The minerals are present in the form of glycinates. In this process, they are linked to an amino acid and thus can be more easily absorbed by the gut.
In the previous formula, the carrier substance was mostly calcium carbonate. This substance has no other function for the bird. In the current formula, the calcium carbonate has been partially replaced by MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), which is a natural sulphur-containing compound. Besides being a filler in AMINOVIT®, it also has many positive effects on the body. It is especially important for skin, plumage and nails. Additionally, there is evidence that it can improve joint problems (such as osteoarthritis in older birds).
In addition to the MSM, the calcium carbonate carrier is partially replaced by cornmeal. This is a more natural filler and also provides additional nutrients.
To further improve the acceptance and taste of AMINOVIT®, a high-quality aniseed oil has been added. This creates a scent that the vast majority of birds will find very pleasant.
The updated AMINOVIT® is available in 100 and 500 gram packages.

Proteins
There is not enough protein in most seed mixtures. Proteins are building blocks of both muscle and plumage. There are a number of amino acids (building blocks of proteins) that birds cannot synthesise on their own. These are called essential amino acids. Among others, methionine, cystine, lysine and tyrosine are important amino acids involved in feather growth, among other things. When there are deficiencies in the diet, a number of things can stand out. The feathers may be weaker, have abnormal bends/shapes or they may have dark coloured stripes (called stress lines).
Using AMINOVIT® you can be sure that your birds are getting enough essential amino acids, ensuring optimal function and appearance of the plumage, among other things.
Vitamins
Two examples of important vitamins in AMINOVIT® that are regularly underrepresented in standard feed:
Vitamin D
Some of the vitamin D a bird uses is absorbed from the food. In addition, under the influence of sunlight, building blocks for vitamin D are converted in the body into vitamin D. If there is insufficient vitamin D in the feed and the bird is kept inside (without direct contact with sunlight), deficiencies can easily occur.
One of the most important functions of vitamin D is to ensure that calcium (lime) in the feed is properly absorbed. A vitamin D deficiency can cause reduced absorption, resulting in a calcium deficiency, especially if the diet is already low in calcium.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is an antioxidant. This means that it prevents damage to cells by trapping harmful substances. If a bird has a deficiency of the mineral selenium in addition to a vitamin E deficiency, the muscles can be affected. The birds are weak, sometimes appearing paralysed. If the muscles in the gizzard are also affected, the birds cannot digest food as well.
Calcium
Calcium is important for the development of bones and egg shells. It also plays a role in the control of muscles. When there are deficiencies in the diet, the body will retrieve the calcium it needs from the bones. As a result, they become brittle and break easily.
Iodine
Iodine is needed to make thyroid hormone. If there is not enough iodine in the food, the thyroid will start to enlarge greatly. Enlargement of the gland can cause the trachea (and sometimes the oesophagus) to become partially obstructed, causing shortness of breath.
